Position Overview

As a Tax Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of tax compliance and planning for the organization. You will lead a team of tax professionals, collaborate with internal stakeholders, and ensure adherence to relevant tax laws and regulations. Your role will involve managing tax strategies, identifying opportunities for tax optimization, and providing guidance on tax-related matters to support the company’s financial objectives.

Key Responsibilities

Tax Compliance:

  • Ensure timely and accurate preparation and filing of all tax returns, including income tax, sales tax, property tax, and other applicable taxes.
  • Stay updated with changes in tax laws and regulations and implement necessary adjustments to ensure compliance.
  • Review tax calculations and documentation prepared by the team, ensuring accuracy and adherence to applicable laws and regulations.

Tax Planning and Strategy:

  • Develop and implement tax planning strategies to optimize the organization’s tax position while minimizing tax liabilities.
  • Identify opportunities for tax savings, deductions, credits, and incentives.
  • Analyze business transactions, acquisitions, and investments to assess tax implications and provide recommendations to minimize tax risks and maximize benefits.

Team Management and Leadership:

  • Lead and manage a team of tax professionals, including hiring, training, and performance evaluations.
  • Provide guidance, mentorship, and support to team members, fostering their professional growth and development.
  • Coordinate work assignments, prioritize tasks, and ensure the team’s timely completion of tax-related projects and deliverables.

Collaboration and Stakeholder Management:

  • Work closely with internal stakeholders, including finance, legal, and executive teams, to understand business operations and objectives and provide tax advice accordingly.
  • Collaborate with external auditors and tax advisors to ensure accurate financial reporting and compliance with tax laws.
  • Communicate complex tax concepts and strategies to non-tax professionals in a clear and concise manner.

Tax Audits and Controversies:

  • Manage tax audits, inquiries, and controversies, liaising with tax authorities as necessary.
  • Conduct internal audits to identify potential tax issues and implement corrective actions.
  • Assist in resolving tax-related disputes and participate in negotiations, settlements, and appeals, if required.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. A Master’s Degree in Taxation or a relevant certification (e.g., CPA) is highly preferred.
  • Extensive experience (typically 8+ years) in tax compliance, planning, and strategy, preferably within a corporate tax department or public accounting firm.
  • In-depth knowledge of federal, state, and local tax laws and regulations.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret complex tax regulations and apply them to business scenarios.
  • Excellent leadership and team management abilities.
  • Effective communication skills to collaborate with various stakeholders and convey tax concepts to non-tax professionals.
  • Detail-oriented mindset with a focus on accuracy and compliance.
  • Proficiency in tax software, accounting systems, and MS Office Suite.
