Scott Isdaner Interviewed About Merger

Effective Jan. 1, the Bala Cynwyd-based firm will complete its first acquisition in over a decade, adding four-employee, Kennett Square-based RW Group.

Isdaner Managing Member Scott Isdaner said the firm is frequently approached with opportunities to buy or sell. Isdaner said it would only make an acquisition if the seller has the same commitment to independence and collaborative culture as well as brings needed technical skills or expertise. The last deal it did involved a solo practitioner.

“We are very selective,” Isdaner said. “We operate as a team. That’s why we don’t do a lot of deals. Once we get past the culture thing, we look at numbers and the practice.”

In this case, RW Group founder Richard Wortmann passed the culture test. The two firms know each other well and Wortmann brings an expertise on the audit side, doing work with pension plans and broker dealers. It also offers a geographic expansion as the firm plans to retain RW’s Kennett office. And Wortman, the only partner-level professional at his firm, is not looking to retire any time soon, with a significant runway left in his career.
